Foundation for Sustainable Veteran Housing Launches "Give Me 5" Campaign to Help End Veteran Homelessness

Micro-donation social media challenge kicks off ahead of Veterans Day to fund shovel-ready housing projects for 40 veterans in Hoboken and Westfield

Westfield, New Jersey – The Foundation for Sustainable Veteran Housing (FSVH) today announced the launch of Give Me 5 – a social media challenge designed to spark a chain of giving and raise funds to help end veteran homelessness in New Jersey. There are currently 40 units of veterans housing ready to break ground between projects in Hoboken and Westfield, and the campaign will help make those projects a reality – giving 40 veterans in New Jersey a safe, stable home.

“No veteran should ever be without a home,” said Joe Mindak, Executive Director of FSVH. “They served our country and fought for our freedom, and now it’s our turn to fight for them. Give Me 5 lets everyone step up – give $5, tag and challenge five friends, and help give a veteran the security and dignity they deserve.”

Launching November 10, the day before Veterans Day, the campaign calls on supporters to donate $5, post about it on social media, and challenge five friends to do the same. The effort harnesses the power of community and gratitude through small acts of generosity that create a lasting impact - helping fund new veteran housing projects that provide safe, supportive homes for those who’ve served our nation.

Join the challenge at www.fsvh.org/giveme5: donate $5, share that you gave - on social or by message - tag five friends, and challenge them to keep it going with #GiveMe5ForVets.

FSVH’s mission is to end veteran homelessness in New Jersey by building a veterans housing facility in each of the state’s 21 counties. Its model centers on revitalizing veterans posts – such as American Legion halls – and rebuilding them to include permanent housing for veterans. This co-location approach creates a built-in support network, connecting residents with fellow veterans, supportive services, and opportunities for employment and reintegration. With successful projects already completed in Hoboken and Emerson and in planning in several other towns, FSVH’s blueprint combines housing, community, and purpose to ensure that no veteran in New Jersey is left without a place to call home.

In 2019, American Legion Post 107 in Hoboken was rebuilt with six new units of housing for veterans. Phase 2 of the project is shovel-ready and will create an additional 18 units for veterans as well as event space for the Hoboken community.

The Westfield project is fully designed and shovel-ready – awaiting the final funding needed to begin construction. Once built, it will transform the historic Martin Wallberg American Legion Post 3 into a modern, 20,000-square-foot facility featuring 22 fully furnished apartment units for formerly homeless veterans. The new complex will also include expanded meeting and supportive service spaces for the growing Post, a redesigned cantina where veterans can gather and socialize, and a 3,000-square-foot event space available for Westfield residents and the broader community to rent for gatherings and celebrations.
